International Translation Week. Martha Tennent & Maruxa Relaño.

With International Translation Day coming up tomorrow, we also want to celebrate the contributions translators make to breaking down language barriers by introducing you to Martha Tennent and Maruxa Relaño, who have beautifully translated Deadlands by Núria Bendicho for 3TimesRebel.

Martha Tennent and Maruxa Relaño are a mother-daughter translation team. They have translated a number of works from Spanish and Catalan, including War, so much war and Garden by the Sea, by Mercè Rodoreda, Blood Crime, by Sebastià Alzamora, and The Sea, by Blai Bonet.

They are both recipients of National Endowment for the Arts fellowships for their translation work. Martha was previously dean of the School of Translation at the University of Vic, Barcelona. Maruxa worked as a journalist in New York and was a translation editor for the Wall Street Journal. They live in Barcelona.
